Our Community Story: Giving Back to Olas Altas BEACH

What started as a simple connection to the beach became something much bigger.

Through the Olas Altas community, we became aware of a local primary school, Josefa Ortiz de Dominguez, just steps from the ocean. While the area around it was full of life, the school itself was struggling —aging infrastructure, limited resources, and over 150 children who deserved more.

A group of passionate locals and seasonal residents came together with one goal: to make a difference.

It began with small but meaningful steps —donating sports equipment, improving basic facilities, and spending time with the kids. What we quickly realized was that this wasn’t just about supplies. It was about showing up, building relationships, and creating opportunities. As momentum grew, so did the impact.

With continued effort, advocacy and community support, attention was brought to the condition of the school. Eventually, government support followed— leading to major improvements including repairs to classrooms, electrical systems, air conditioning, and overall infrastructure. What once felt like an uphill battle became a powerful example of what community can accomplish together.

Plans expanded beyond repairs with future goals to include after school programs in English, arts, music, and sports—giving children a safe, inspiring place to learn and grow. Initiatives around recycling, environmental awareness, and ocean conservation were also introduced, connecting the kids to the beautiful coastline they call home.

At Surf Shack Olas Altas, this story is part of who we are. We believe a business should be more than a place to shop—it should be part of the community. Supporting local kids, uplifting neighbourhoods, and contributing to something meaningful is at the core of what we stand for.

This is still an ongoing journey, and there is always more to do. But what’s already been accomplished proves when people come together with heart and purpose, real change happens!
